Description

Limited release

The second generation of Ashmead family, and Elderton Co-Managing Directors, Allister and Cameron, as the current custodians of a rare piece of Barossa Valley viticultural heritage, continue their parents’ aspirations and expectations to produce a great wine of the world. The Command is truly an expression of place, and one of which the family intends to preserve for generations to come.

Winemaker Notes

The fruit was harvested by hand, with five small parcels harvested over five weeks to attain complex nuances. Fermented in open top concrete fermenters with chilled ferments, hand pump-overs and cap submerging with oak header boards for eight days; the process finished with barrel ferment and malolactic fermentation in new French and American puncheons. Aromas of blackberry fruit, aniseed and spices carry through to the palate which is rich, warm and generous.
- Richard Langford

Reviews

94 points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Smooth as silk. Rich as melted chocolate. Plums, soy, earth, five spice, mint and leathery, undergrowthy, secondary characters. Complex, developed, fresh, powerful, warm and smooth at once. An ultra-fine mesh of tannin. Sure-footed in every way.

94 points - Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2015 Command Single Vineyard Shiraz fits the mold of a big, bold, Barossa Shiraz. Vanilla and baking spices accent blackberry and mulberry fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is ripe and creamy, supple and richly concentrated through the long, soft finish.
