Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc
History
This is the first 100% Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc by Elderton, a variety enjoying immense popularity with wine drinkers around the world. Our expression is grown from vineyards high up in the Adelaide Hills - Australia's undisputed king region for this variety. Whilst displaying the fresh aromatic characteristics and clean, grassy palate structure Sauvignon Blanc is famous for, we believe the 2009 to also display wonderful mineral and delicate floral characters. A wine to be enjoyed with Australia’s magnificent seafood offering.
Winemaking
This Sauv Blanc from the Adelaide hills region is from a mature vineyard (12 years) and has a difference of 20 metres in elevation across the block. This has allowed us to blend in the vineyard by picking the fruit at a point where the top vines on harder ground, with limited foliage, had a wonderful passionfruit bouquet and full palette weight. The lower fruit in turn, on heavier soil, had more foliage giving the grassy characters and acid, which we feel has resulted in finely balanced wine with an array of nuances. Please enjoy.” - Richard Langford
Viticulture
This Sauvignon Blanc is grown in Kersbrook, which lies on the border of the Adelaide Hills & the Eden Valley, North East of Adelaide. This higher appellation varies tremendously in climatic conditions and soils from that of the Barossa Valley floor. Due to altitude, the climate is cooler and the soils tend to be more minerally, thus, perfect for Sauvignon Blanc. Our grower ensures care is taken in every step of the vine cycle, whereby hand pruning, careful selection of picking time and many hours of nurturing throughout the year all contribute to the wonderful results found in the bottle.
